Earth Day – Tuesday, April 22
Tuesday, April 22 is Earth Day. Students at HPE are encouraged to think of ways they can help care for our Earth on Earth Day and beyond.
In an effort to raise awareness of this very topic, students at HPE have been encouraged to show their support by bringing a litter-less lunch to school on Tuesday, April 22.
***make your kids’ lunch waste-free***
Litter-less lunches at school are the best form of recycling. On average, a school-age child with a disposable lunch generates approximately 30 kg (67 lbs) of waste per school year. That means that if your child has 25 students in his/her class, they are producing 737 kg (1,625 lbs) of waste each year. This is more weight than the average car…. just imagine what a whole school produces!
In addition to litter-less lunches for Earth Day, many teachers at our school opted to have their students participate in the Trees For Hope initiative. Many students will be bringing home a Douglas Fir Seedling to plant at home and care for.
