Fire Drill today – Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024
We are required to have 6 fire drills in a school year. This practice helps to train our brains in the event of a real emergency that would require an evacuation. Today we had our first practice and overall it was very successful. For the first few practices, we let staff and students know in advance. In the Spring, after much practice, we will not be giving advance notice. We are working on evacuating promptly, quietly and in an orderly fashion. We are working on following directions as we line up and walk to our assembly area to take attendance. In the spirit of goal setting, which is our October focus and discussed at our recent whole school assembly, classes will be asked to develop a goal to work towards for our second fire drill on Monday, October 7th. Our evacuation time from the start of the alarm to when all were accounted for, was 5 1/2 minutes. Congratulations Highland Park Huskies.
