Welcome Back Highland Park Huskies
The energy and excitement of the first day back to school is wonderful to be a part of. It was a great first day back to school reconnecting with students and families. It was such a joy to be able to welcome everybody back. One of our whole school initiatives related to student wellness and belonging is exploring what it means to be Husky STRONG while with our last year’s class.

A reminder that students are with their last year’s class and where possible their last year’s teacher this whole week. We are hopeful that we can start transitioning students to their assigned class for the year on Friday. Traditionally this process happens during the day on Friday. If our enrollment is still in flux, this process will have to wait until Monday. Regardless, I know students will be very excited to let you know their classroom placement for the year.
Regarding student placement, please know that the HPE staff work very hard, given the constraints of class size and composition, on a variety of scenarios to best meet the educational needs of our students schoolwide. We work hard as a staff to consider the best learning environment for your children. The goal is to create balanced classrooms, taking into account a variety of factors that affect the overall composition of the class. We know that change and unmet expectations can be difficult but your trust in our staff and our rationale with the placement of students is important to us and much appreciated. Once our placement process is complete, and children have been assigned to their classroom for the year, rarely are requests for changes considered as they can negatively affect the overall classroom composition we have worked hard to create in each class. For those parents who provided input in April and May we thank you for sharing your insights. All input was considered as a valuable piece of the complex puzzle. Having said that, we are not be able to accommodate all requests. You know your child best. We use our knowledge of your child and the many other students from their experiences in the classroom and school environment. We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth, and working together. If you wish to reread the information about how to provide parent input into classroom placement, please click on the April Newsletter. Information about school configuration planning can be found in the June Newsletter.
We are looking for crossing guards and offering training to volunteers for the rest of the week. If this is something you are interested in, please complete the form HERE. We have RCMP support for this training opportunity.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to ALWAYS check in at the office if you are entering the building. Visitors are required to sign in at the front office. If you are looking to pick up your child early, we ask that you contact the office and we will have your child ready to meet you at the time requested.
Looking forward to our first full day tomorrow, Thursday, September 4. Hope to see you (all parents are invited) at our upcoming PAC meeting on Wednesday, September 10 at 2:30 in the school library as well as at our Back to School BBQ event on Thursday, September 18 at 5:00 pm.
It’s the Husky Way – Whooo AHHH!
