Highland Park Elementary School Remembers

Highland Park Elementary students and staff welcomed Mr. Shawn Coady and Colour Guard veterans from the Legion at our Remembrance Day Assembly this morning. Mr. Shawn Coady talked to students about why we remember, the symbols of remembrance and Canada’s influence in past wars and with more recent peace keeping efforts. He also acknowledged Indigenous Veterans Day which is on Friday, Nov. 8th. Mrs. Kalf accompanied her grade two students while they performed a song about Remembrance Day and many students had their art work displayed. Mr. Coady reminded us about the significant sacrifice our Canadian Soldiers have made and that two minutes of silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month is the least we can do to honour them and show our sincerest gratitude. We hope you can find time this Remembrance Day, Monday, November 11th to Remember. For students working on completing a poster and/or a literary entry for the Legion’s annual Remembrance Day Contest, please ensure these get to our office by Friday, November 29th.
