Park lot Instructions at HPE – starting Monday, May 12, 2025
Please review carefully the information below and image above outlying changes to our parking lot scheduled for over the weekend. Thank you for all the feedback from our school community. These changes reflect ideas shared by PAC, parents, staff, and SD83 operations staff. These changes represent our first phase and will be in affect starting Monday, May 12th. Thank you for your cooperation. It will take everyone’s cooperation. Please share this post with any caregivers that you put in charge of dropping off or picking up your children so everyone is aware of these instructions.
We will have several volunteers out before school and after school to support with the change. Change can sometimes be hard but with practice, we are hoping to see improvements to the flow of traffic and the safety of our children. Our volunteers will be wearing high vis vests. Mrs. Cull will be collecting any feedback that you may have positive or negative and will make any necessary adjustments in our next phase. You can contact her at scull@sd83.bc.ca.
On Monday, you will notice additional signage, additional parking stalls, more crosswalks, and more
arrows to reinforce the direction (weather permitting).
The busiest time for our parking lot is at pick up and drop off between 7:40 and 8:00 am and
again from about 1:50 – 2:10. Please consider using the IPE grounds for additional parking
at these busy times.
To reduce the demand for parking spaces at these busy times, if at all possible, we
encourage parents to please consider walking your children to and from school, riding
bikes or scooters to and from school, and using the kiss and ride lane.
It is important that drivers make space for two lanes of traffic all along the side of the front school
field near the angled parking section and kiss and ride zone, up until the end of the gate. One
lane is for the kiss and ride lane and the other is for through traffic. Please be sure to keep
this in mind so vehicles always have access to the kiss and ride lane and can pull up to the
very end of the kiss and ride lane, near the gate.
Never double park to pick up or drop off your child. Loop around until you find a parking
spot or available spot in the kiss and ride lane. Use the cross walks provided with your
children.
How to use the kiss and ride lane…
Pull up to the very end of the kiss and ride lane (nearest the gate) as this makes it easier for
other drivers to follow suit. Pull up as close as possible to the driver ahead of you to
maximize the space available for additional vehicles pulling over to drop off or pick up.
Continue to loop around until you see your child waiting for you beside the kiss and ride
lane. Your child will walk to where you stop. Only pull into the kiss and ride lane when you
see your child is ready for pick up. This is not a space to wait or park.
Please be quick in the kiss and ride lane. We encourage drivers to stay in their vehicle as
children are loading and unloading.
Designated Staff Parking…
In an effort to prevent vehicles from having to turn around in tight spaces and back out into
congested traffic, we have designated certain parking areas as staff only. Please do not
enter the road that leads behind the daycare as this is designated as staff only parking and
daycare only traffic. In addition, please do not park in the angled parking spaces, unless
you are only looking for parking mid day or well after school.
Right hand turn ONLY onto Wood Avenue between 7:40 – 8:00 am and 1:50 – 2:10 pm.
Thank you for finding an alternate route during these busy times by turning right only.
