Aboriginal Education Program

We would like to acknowledge with respect, that School District No 83 resides on the traditional territories of the Secwepemc People, Kukstsemc.

The Aboriginal Department’s purpose is to provide learning of Aboriginal cultures and histories to all students, whereby, enhancing a shared understanding and respect between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.

The Aboriginal Departments goal is to improve the overall academic performance and success of our Aboriginal students by:

• creating an environment that supports resiliency
• supporting academic relevancy
• engaging students/parents/community in positive supportive relationships
• encouraging language and culture steeped in respect

Our Indigenous Education Worker at Highland Park Elementary is Ms. Laura Dolha, and she works daily with staff and students to engage our community in First Peoples Principles of Learning.
