Principal’s Message

Principal’s message

Welcome to Highland Park Elementary School. We are a kindergarten to grade 5 school that prides itself on working with our school community to create respectful, responsible citizens. We have an active PAC who we work closely with to develop and implement on-going activities and programs to enhance the education of our students and we look forward to welcoming you to become a part of our PAC. As always, you are free to ask your child’s teacher, the administration or a PAC executive member if you have questions about the school.

Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for our students to try a variety of activities such as gymnastics, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dance, skating, swimming, and a variety of traditional indigenous activities. We also have an active student leadership group for our grade 4/5 students who are involved in a variety of school services including student secretaries, P.E., School Spirit Committee, assemblies, compost, lunch monitors and hand-outs, announcers and Library Helpers. These students are valuable members of our school community who learn leadership skills while making an important contribution. Other extra-curricular activities for our students include Track and Field, volleyball and basketball. We welcome parent volunteers for our teams so please contact me at the school if you would like to get involved.

Some exciting events which occur at our school each year are winter and spring concerts, cultural performances, gr. 4/5 Triathlon, a whole school Fun Day in June, an annual spring Talent Show, letter writing, books and games event, and a variety of events related to the seasons. We encourage parents to attend and participate.

Some opportunities for parents to contribute to the school outside of their child’s regular classroom are through our One to One Reading Program and Safe Arrival Program. Please let me know if you would like more information about these programs.

As you can see, we are an active and vibrant school community who work hard to create an enriching and safe learning environment for all of our students. Welcome to Highland Park.
